Freedom for Animals is pleased to announce that the ban on the use of wild animals in travelling circuses in Scotland will come into force on 28th May 2018.

This will be the first time that the use of wild animals in circuses will be banned anywhere in the UK and so it is a historic victory for the animals.

Freedom for Animals has spent over six decades campaigning for an end to the use of animals in UK circuses. Circus animals are forced to perform unnatural tricks, transported hundreds of miles around the country and kept in cramped, temporary accommodation - all in the name of entertainment.

Animals including camel, zebra, horses and dogs continue to be exploited in circuses in the UK.

In December 2017, the bill was unanimously signed off by MSPs - 112 votes to 0. It is so fantastic that this legislation will now be put into practice to protect wild animals.

Freedom for Animals has worked alongside campaign partners, including OneKind and Born Free, as well as grassroots activists to secure this success for the animals.

Animals do not choose to perform these tricks - they perform them from fear.    

We would like to say a huge thank you to all our supporters over the years who have held protests, lobbied their MSPs, attended council meetings, distributed leaflets and supported Freedom for Animals in the fight for animals’ freedom – what an amazing result!

Now it is time for the rest of the UK to follow Scotland’s example.
