The notorious Borth Wild Animal Kingdom has been ordered to rehome its big cats after breaking the conditions of its zoo licence. The owners of 'Britain's worst zoo' appeared at Aberystwyth Magistrates Court on Monday in a hearing about a closure direction brought against the zoo by Ceredigion Council. The order means that we are even closer to seeing the end of the zoo where one in five animals died in the space of just one year.

Borth Zoo will now have to close the enclosures of its 'Category 1' carnivores - two lions, three lynx and a serval. The council stated, "Ceredigion County Council agreed to an alteration to the licence to close only this section of the zoo, namely the enclosures holding lions, lynx and serval animals."

The zoo has shut immediately whilst it rehomes the animals, thought to be in other zoos. During the legal proceedings, the two sides made a deal which saw Borth Zoo escape permanent closure, although the decision comes as a huge blow to the zoo.

Sam Threadgill, Freedom for Animals' Director commented:

Whilst it is disappointing that Ceredigion Council missed this opportunity to finally close this horror zoo for good, Monday's decision marks a major step forward in our campaign to shut down Borth Zoo. Too many animals have suffered and died at Borth and we won't stop until all animals are rehomed from this cruel attraction.
