New Investigation Reveals Ongoing Suffering in UK Bird of Prey Centres

Freedom for Animals has released a major new investigation exposing continued welfare failures in the UK bird of prey industry. This follow-up research - part of our Tether and Torment campaign - comes seven years after our 2018 report into the industry first revealed the hidden suffering behind bird of prey centres.

Owls, hawks, falcons, vultures and other species are still being kept in restrictive, stressful and often legally questionable conditions across the country.

Thanks to supporters of The Big Give Christmas Challenge, investigators revisited three centres originally assessed in 2018:

  • Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary

  • English School of Falconry

  • Owl Sanctuary, Festival Park Ebbw Vale

Our undercover investigator spent a week at each site, gathering evidence on housing, training, breeding and public handling sessions.
