Take Action Previous Webinars We are hosting regular webinars with a variety of themes around animals and campaigning. Once they have been aired we will add them here so if you missed them you can easily catch up! The Primate Pet Trade - What is it all about and what can be done to help primates? In the UK it is still legal to 'own' a wild monkey as a pet. There are an estimated 9000 primates being kept as pets in people's homes, living in completely unsuitable accommodation and suffering as a result. In this webinar we will be discussing the trade, how it works, what the impact is on those primates kept in the trade and how we are working to end it. We will be joined by Rachel Hevesi, Director of the charity Wild Futures, which runs the Monkey Sanctuary in Looe, Cornwall. The sanctuary has been rescuing primates for over 50 years and we will hear some of the stories of the individuals they have cared for. www.wildfutures.org Animals All Around Us - why we don’t need to visit zoos to learn about animals Zoos are often cited as being essential for people to ‘get close to nature’ and learn about animals. Yet we have many wonderful animals living around us in our neighbourhoods, countryside and wild spaces, many of whom we do not even realise are there! Our guest speakers for our first Wildlife Webinar have both focused their work on protecting wild spaces and their inhabitants. They will introduce us to some of the animals we can encounter in the wild and discuss how when we know more about them, how enriching that can be for both us and them. Our guest speakers are: Dr Luke Blazejewski is a wildlife photographer and filmmaker based in Manchester. Jack Wootton is an Aquatic Ecologist and documentary-maker based in Edinburgh.
